The rules, and one warning that matters more than the rules

Using this site means accepting what is on this page. It is short, and written to be read rather than clicked past.

Build at your own risk, and understand the risk

This is the important section. The material here describes apparatus that operates at tens of kilovolts, and that produces hydrogen and oxygen as a mixed gas. Both of those can kill you, and the second one is explosive across an unusually wide range of concentrations and ignites on almost nothing.

Nothing on this site is engineering advice, a design you should build from, or a claim that any device described here is safe or works. Much of the archive is reproduced precisely because it is disputed, and several of our own episodes exist to show where a claim in these documents does not survive arithmetic. A document being here means it is preserved, not that it is endorsed.

If you build, you do so entirely at your own risk and on your own judgement. Check the physics yourself. We provide the calculations and their assumptions so that you can, and we would much rather be corrected than believed.

What the archive is

A preservation archive of the work of Stanley A. Meyer (1940–1998), run by a research group. We are not his estate, not a company, and not connected to any body selling anything based on this work.

Accounts

Accounts are by invitation and approval. Give accurate details, keep your password to yourself, do not share the account, and tell us if you think it has been taken. One account per person. You are responsible for what happens under yours.

What you may not do

• Harass, threaten or abuse anybody, here or in private messages.
• Post anything unlawful, or anything you do not have the right to post.
• Impersonate anyone, including Meyer, his family, or other members.
• Scrape, hammer or otherwise degrade the site for everybody else. Read what you like; do not point a machine at it.
• Attempt to break into any part of the system, or to reach data that is not yours.
• Use the marketplace to sell anything illegal, dangerous to ship, or that you do not have.

Posts are moderated. We may hold, edit, remove or refuse anything, and may suspend or close an account. Where a post is removed we try to say why.

What you post stays yours

You keep ownership of what you write. By posting it you give the archive a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store it, display it, distribute it as part of the site, and include it in an episode or a quotation with attribution. That licence exists so the archive can go on being an archive; it lets us keep your post readable and cited, not sell it.

You confirm that what you post is yours to post.

The historical material, and copyright

Patents, memos, photographs, transcripts and threads are reproduced here for research, study and commentary, with provenance recorded per item. Where we hold a copy we say so; where we only know a document exists, we say that and say where the original is.

If you hold rights in something here and want it removed, write to hello@stanslegacy.com saying what it is, where it is on the site, and what your claim to it is. We will take it down while we look, and we will tell you what we decide. We would rather hear from you than from a lawyer, and we have never yet needed one.

Episodes and synthetic voices

Some episodes are made by the archive from its own holdings, narrated by synthetic voices. Where a synthetic voice is used to read words attributed to a real person, it reads only words that person actually wrote or said, each cited to a document you can open, and the episode says on screen that the voice is synthetic. No synthetic voice is used to put new opinions into a real person's mouth.

The marketplace

Listings are between members. The archive is not the seller, does not hold stock, does not inspect goods and is not a party to the sale. Payment runs through Stripe. Sellers are responsible for describing what they sell honestly, shipping it, and meeting whatever consumer law applies to them; buyers are responsible for paying and for giving a correct address.

If a sale goes wrong, work it out with the other member first. We will help where we can, may take a view on a dispute, and may remove a listing or a seller, but we cannot refund a payment we never received.

No warranty

The site is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available, correct, complete or free of mistakes. The archive contains transcription errors, OCR errors, and documents that contradict one another — deliberately, because that is what the record looks like. Verify anything you intend to rely on.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss, injury or damage arising from using this site or from anything built, bought or decided on the strength of it. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Ending it

You can close your account at any time by asking. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. The sections on liability, licences and the historical material survive the account going away.

Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. Carrying on using the site after that means accepting the new version.
