Abstract
A chemical engineer's column on why water cannot be a fuel: it is the ash of hydrogen's combustion, and splitting it costs at least the energy burning the hydrogen returns. Meyer is the example. Kept as the plainest statement of the thermodynamic objection, the one every reader of the memos has to answer.
