8XA unit (community bench supply)

Community usage, not a term from the corpus. Builders use "8XA unit" for a bench supply of their own making — mains into a variac, a bridge rectifier, and an SCR fired against the rectified rail — which is line-commutated, so the mains sets the envelope the pulse train sits inside. No archive holding calls this an 8XA. The label was taken from Meyer's Figure 8XA, the Solid State Amp Inhibiting Circuit, which is a different device entirely: a bifilar pair on a magnetic core. Read any claim about "the 8XA" twice to see which one is meant.
