When the orientation coils (12/13) are de-energized, the permanently magnetized particles (16a...16n) rotate another 90 degrees, reforming field (4) while field (3) collapses; the collapsing field (3) passes through the pickup coils (2a...2n), producing a bipolar voltage pulse across them.
