A self-cleaning fuel cell was developed by way of voltage application: voltage pulses perform a scrubbing action on the plates that prevents an oxidizing coat/film from forming (by retarding chemical interaction due to amp consumption), with voltage pulse polarity periodically reversed on the plates.
