Jim Miller, the Historian

Jim Miller was IonizationX's historian. From 2011 he kept a board of his own there, "J. Miller", under the forum's members' projects, and filled it with the kind of work nobody else was doing: measuring the devices off the photographs, cataloguing every picture and tape, listing who had been to the Broadway lab and when, indexing the memos by figure number, and chasing down the newspaper stories, the Czech television dub and the Bulgarian subtitles. He posted the coroner's papers when he got them. He organised the August 24th remembrance. When a document surfaced he checked it against his master list and said whether it was new.

What he wrote is worth having for two reasons. The measurements and indexes are usable now: a replicator who wants the demonstration cell's tube lengths or the thickness of the TEC flange finds them in his photogrammetry threads, and nowhere else. And the lists of names and dates are testimony of a kind the archive is otherwise short of, gathered from people who were there while they could still be asked.

What survives, and what does not

The forum's harvest, which is the copy this archive holds, never went below the "Projects by members" category, so his board was not in it. The site's own database has since gone down. What could be recovered came from the Wayback Machine, which had saved the board's index pages and the text of 77 of the at least 173 threads on it, as a guest saw them: the posters' names hidden, and every attachment behind a login it never had. The recovered threads are on the board itself, where the rest of the forum is, with each opening post credited to him and the replies to nobody, since the saved pages do not say who wrote them.

The attachments are the loss. His PDFs and spreadsheets, the scaled photographs with the measurements drawn on them, the videography, the news-release summary, the demonstration abbreviation list, the transcripts: all of it was attached rather than pasted, and all of it is gone with the forum. The names the recovered pages mention are listed at the foot of this page. If you were a member and saved any of them, the archive would like a copy.

Titles in plain text are known from the board's index but the thread itself was never saved.

Who was there

The lists of the people around the Broadway lab, with dates. The closest thing there is to a register of Meyer's witnesses.

Photogrammetry

Dimensions taken off the photographs: caliper ratios, edge enhancement, scaled overlays, a blueprint of the grounding plate. What a replicator needs and the photographs alone do not give.
