The disclosure is of a machine for producing the rotary motion of a shaft by causing two permanent magnets carried by the shaft to pass in close proximity to the poles of an electromagnetic coil as the shaft is rotated, with poles of the same polarity of the permanent mag nets and the coil adjacent, and energizing the coil dur ing passage of the permanent magnets past the poles of the coil while maintaining the coil otherwise de-ener gized.
