Varying the duty cycle of the uni-polar pulse DC voltage applied to the plate exciters keeps the pulse amplitude at a maximum level that would otherwise cause electron leakage, while the average amplitude stays below the leakage threshold, preserving the force of the maximum limit without sustained leakage.
