What was shown

Four hundred thousand people watched forty seconds of 1986 television on a Facebook page called History In Pictures, and then they typed. This film reads what they typed, and lets Stan answer.

About the voice, and read this one. Where you hear Stan Meyer in this film, you are hearing a synthetic voice built by a machine from thirty seconds of his voice on the Deer Creek conference tape. In every other film in this strand that voice says only sentences he said or wrote. In this one it does not. The words are written for him by the archive: the facts are checked and sourced below, the jokes are ours, and he never said any of it. It is a character built from his record, played for laughs, and the film says so on its first slide. Nothing in it should be quoted as something Stan Meyer said. His real words, with the minute on every tape, are here and throughout the site.

About the comments. Every comment is quoted exactly as it was typed, spelling and emoji included, from the thread under the reel. Nobody is named, and where a reply began by tagging someone, the name is left out. Where a comment was right, the film says so.

What the record says

The clip is the Channel 6 report from Columbus in 1986, transcribed here. What happened on 20 and 21 March 1998, and what the coroner found, is in The Day Stan Died. The 1996 judgment is in the Dispatch's 2007 account and WFC's own public notice.
