Chris Freedom CT + full bridge: forward vs flyback ratio ≈ t_on / (L_sec/R_cell) ≈ t_on/30 µs, independent of Vin; 165 mH choke with 3–4 ppm cell is overdamped (Q ≈ 0.3)

Rough model, my calculation, 2026-11-08, for Chris Freedom's question on adding forward mode. Rig: 38T primary, two ~380T halves in series (n_total = 20), full bridge to the cell, Lp ≈ 0.915 mH (scaled from Sec A 91.5 mH), L_sec_total ≈ 366 mH. Cell taken as R ≈ 12 kΩ (from 3–4 ppm TDS and geometry, not measured at µs/100s of V) in parallel with ~100 pF. Leakage inductance, winding C and diode drops ignored. Forward across the cell = 20·Vin (±10·Vin per plate vs CT). Flyback across the cell ≈ (Vin·t_on/Lp)/20 · R. Ratio flyback/forward = t_on/(L_sec/R) = t_on/30.5 µs, so Vin cancels. Check: 4 V and 76 µs predicts ≈199 V flyback, matching Chris's ±100 V plates (#3532). Forward is about 80 V at 4 V. To strengthen forward relative to flyback: shorten t_on toward ~30 µs, and raise Vin (to 12 V: forward ±120 V per plate) to restore amplitude. Resonant charging choke: Q = ω0·τ_relax = (ε/σ)/√(LC) ≈ 1.16 µs / √(165 mH·100 pF) ≈ 0.29, which is overdamped, so there is no 2× resonant charging at 3–4 ppm. Q ∝ √gap for fixed L, so a narrower gap lowers it further. This corrects my 2026-11-07 suggestion that the choke would ring the cell to 2×.
