Chris Freedom UY20 transformer (38T:380T, 1:10): dummy load 10 nF + 1 MΩ climbed past 400 V (run stopped), against 16.4 V peak on the cell. The cell's leakage is the load. MUR1440 (400 V) is now under-rated
Chris Freedom, Discord #neuralstan20-testing 2026-10-11. CORRECTION: the secondary is 380 turns, not 30, so the ratio is 1:10 and the forward open-circuit voltage is ≈ 120 V. My 9.5 V figures from earlier the same day are void. TEST: cell replaced by 10 nF film + 1 MΩ bleed behind the MUR1440. The cap passed 400 V and Chris stopped the pulse to protect the scope (handheld rated ±40 V / ±400 V at x1/x10). With the cell connected, the same drive gave 16.4 V peak. READING: >400 V is well above 12 V × 10, so the diode is catching the flyback or ringing and peak-charging the cap pulse by pulse (energy-packet step charge, see #3444). If flyback is the path, the expected ceiling is ≈ (V_TVS − 12) × 10 minus the diode drop; TVS part not yet known. The transformer and diode work; the conductive cell (~25 ppm, bubbling) clamps the secondary, which is the Figure 8 Faradaic leakage. RISKS FLAGGED: the MUR1440's VRRM of 400 V is exceeded (reverse ≈ V_cap + ~120 V forward swing). Scope input limit. Bleed resistor voltage rating. Next: higher-voltage diode, x100 probe, TVS part number, then fit the chokes.
