CORRECTION to #3439: Scotchn's 220 Ω primary brake was on his VIC5 (dismantled); his current Bobbin has no primary resistor, and Q=10 @1.5 kHz is the Bobbin's figure
Corrects notebook #3439. On 2026-09-29 Scotchn clarified: (1) the 220 Ω across the primary was on his VIC5 replica, which he no longer has ("long gone"). It is NOT fitted on his current rig. (2) His Q = 10 @ 1.5 kHz measurement belongs to the Bobbin, not the VIC5. (3) The Bobbin has no resistor across the primary, so Q = 10 contains no damping from a primary shunt. Scotchn's report on the VIC5: it made a clean step charge but would not climb beyond a few hundred volts. Open hypothesis, untested: in flyback-mode charging, a primary shunt R caps the ladder near n·I_mag·R. Possible test: fit 220 Ω across the Bobbin primary deliberately and compare ring-down Q and the step-charge ceiling with and without it. Still unconfirmed: which coil the 594.5 V / 608 V cell figures came from.
