Scotchn VIC5 step-charge ceiling ~225 V is a recollection, not a clean measurement (10X passive, no scale, ground reference unknown)
Scotchn (Discord #neuralstan20-testing, 2026-09-29) recalls his VIC5 replica (200T primary, 220 Ω primary damper, now dismantled) topping out at about 225 V in step charge. Conditions, from his memory: measured before he owned differential probes, 10X passive probes, time/div not recorded, bottom trace = MOSFET drive at an unsuitable v/div. He confirms it did NOT reach 2,250 V, so a 1X/10X attenuation mismatch is ruled out. He does not remember where the ground clips went, so a scope-earth short between the secondary side and the MOSFET source cannot be ruled out. Resistive probe loading is negligible: 10 MΩ × 98 nF ≈ 1 s, and even 10 MΩ × 2.2 nF ≈ 22 ms, both far longer than a sub-ms pulse period. Which cell was on the VIC5 is still unknown. CONSEQUENCE: this trace cannot separate the three candidate ceilings (probe-ground short, 220 Ω damper clamp near n·I_mag·R per #3440, or water leakage). The test belongs on the current Bobbin: a properly referenced ladder with and without 220 Ω across the primary, logging the droop slope at each step (slope × C = leak current at that voltage).
