Tri-Coil primary: ~200-turn window, "BIDIRECTIONAL" = axial layer traverse, "30 GA." likely means .030 in; ties 1987 pencil pages to the Fig 3-23/4-27/6-1 family (amends #3424)

  • 1. PENCIL PAGES GIVE THE PRIMARY CAVITY EXPLICITLY — "the primary coil cavity, 2.00 by .100 in, .028 gauge copper wire: .100 / .028 = 3.5; 2.00 / .028 = 71.4; 3 x 71 = 213 turns; 84,500 secondary turns / 200 primary turns = 422.5 x 12 volts = 5,070 volts" (Five pencil pages, 1987). About 3.5 layers of about 71 turns, so roughly 200 turns.
    1. BIDIRECTIONAL (Fig 6-1 Memo WFC 425 p.6-5; Fig 4-27 Memo WFC 423 DA; Birth of New Technology "Tri-Coil Construction": primary "layered bidirectional (507a xxx 507n)"). Scotchn's reading (2026-09-23): axial layers traversed end to end and back, about 3.5 layers. This is the traverse direction; the rotational sense is unchanged. It does NOT conflict with US 5,149,407 "the coil wrap is always in one direction only" (a different coil: 200 turns 24 ga primary, 600 turns 36 ga secondary, M27 core) or WO9207861 "coils preferably wound in the same direction".
  • 3. GAUGE NOTATION — Stan writes gauge as decimal inches (".004 Ga.", ".002 GA.", ".028 gauge"; Tri-Coil text "typically .030 Ga." primary). So the "30 GA." on Fig 6-1/4-27 is most likely .030 in (about 20 AWG), NOT 30 AWG (.010 in). Check: a .010 in wire in a 2.00 x .100 in cavity would fit about 2,000 turns, inconsistent with the about-200-turn window (Scotchn) and the pencil arithmetic. AMENDS #3424, which read "30 GA" without flagging this.
  • 4. CONSEQUENCE — the pencil-page primary cavity matches the Tri-Coil primary window, so the 1987 pencil pages belong to the Tri-Coil/VIC family (Fig 3-23 / 4-27 / 6-1), not a separate no-choke "Big Bobbin". This weakens Chris Freedom's hypothesis of 2026-09-23. Scotchn adds: dual primaries are selectable, it is the same design configured for different loads. The passage he cites on tuning per application has NOT yet been located.
