The ten stages, and an eleventh

Amp Restriction

Meyer's first law for the VIC: let the voltage rise and keep the current out. He wrote it as a list, "10 Stages To Amp Restriction in the VIC", and then added an eleventh. Each stage below is in his words, with what the archive takes it to mean and where in the Technical Brief he explains it.

Meyer's heading says ten. His list has eleven, the last labelled "Step 11", and that eleventh line appears again, word for word, as step 12 of the Voltage Attenuation list. The list is given as he left it.

    Variable Pulse Voltage Frequency

    What it means
    The pulse rate is the first control. The cell is a capacitor with water for its dielectric, and a capacitor passes current in proportion to how fast the voltage across it changes; the frequency is set so the voltage can be driven up while the current the water draws stays near nothing.

    Variable Gated Pulse

    Variable Gated Pulse is adjusted to reduce amp flow still further, while allowing voltage amplitude and pulse frequency to be adjusted to tune into higher gas yields — in Meyer's words

    What it means
    The pulses are sent in bursts with a gap between them: the gate. The gap is where the water lets go of what it drew, so current is cut again without touching the pulse itself, and amplitude and frequency are then free to be tuned for gas.

    Resistive Wire 430/FR on Secondary Coil

    What it means
    The secondary of the VIC transformer is wound in 430FR stainless steel rather than copper. The wire's own resistance limits how much current the winding can pass, whatever the voltage across it; the coil becomes a voltage source that cannot become a current source.

    Weak Air Space between Primary and Secondary

    Weak Air Space between Primary/Secondary coupling is a stop gap method of restricting amps since no electrical connection exists inside said air-gap — in Meyer's words

    What it means
    Primary and secondary are coupled only by their magnetic field across a gap, with no wire between them. A loosely coupled transformer cannot deliver heavy current to its secondary however hard the primary is driven. Meyer calls it a stop gap: a limit set by construction rather than by control.

    Amp restricting before Transformer Action

    Amp restricting functions prior to Transformer Action prevent "Power Drop" during pulsing operations under load — in Meyer's words

    What it means
    The current limits are placed on the primary side, before the transformer steps the voltage up. A load on the secondary then cannot drag the primary down: the pulse arrives at full height every time, which is what "no power drop under load" means.

    What it means
    The same steel wire in the two chokes either side of the cell. A choke passes a pulse's voltage and resists a change in current; wound in resistance wire it does both harder, so the chokes let the voltage through to the water and stand in the way of any current that tries to follow.

    What it means
    Plain water, not an electrolyte. Electrolysis needs current and an electrolyte to carry it; with current held out there is nothing for dissolved salts to do, so ordinary water of about twenty parts per million serves and the electrodes are not eaten.

    Cavity Insulation

    Cavity Insulation - Prevent Electrical Leakage and said applied voltage pulses retain much higher voltage potential during gas production. Seals off said voltage gap by preventing electrical leakage to said water supply. Voltage concentration is now accomplished during gas production. — in Meyer's words

    What it means
    The cell's electrodes are insulated everywhere except the gap they face across, so the voltage has one path, the water gap, and none through the surrounding supply. What would have leaked away stays across the gap; that is what he means by concentrating the voltage.

    More excitor pairs, same pulsing circuit

    Pulsing Circuit remains the same with more excitor pairs added. Power loss is held to a minimum — in Meyer's words

    What it means
    The cell is scaled by adding electrode pairs, not by driving harder. Because each pair draws almost no current, the one pulsing circuit serves them all and the power lost stays where it was.

    Primary / Secondary Weak Coupling

    Primary / Secondary Weak Coupling — in Meyer's words

    What it means
    The last of the ten, and the fourth said again as a principle rather than a construction: the transformer is deliberately weakly coupled so that voltage transfers and current does not. It is the balance the whole list exists to hold.

    Voltage amplitude adjusted no further once Compounding Action holds

    Step 11: Voltage Amplitude is adjusted no further, to keep amp flow to a minimum, once Compounding Action is properly maintained. — in Meyer's words

    What it means
    Once the chokes and cell are resonating and each pulse builds on the last, the compounding he describes elsewhere, the input amplitude is left alone. Pushing it further only invites current. The same sentence closes the Voltage Attenuation list as its step 12.
